Sanju Samson Faces Penalty for Over-Rate Violation

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, has been imposed a significant fine of ₹24 lakh due to his team's slow over-rate during their recent Indian Premier League match against Gujarat Titans.

In this encounter, Gujarat Titans emerged victorious, winning by 58 runs. Chasing a target of 218 runs, the Royals were dismissed for 159 runs in just 19.2 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday.

According to a statement released by the IPL on Thursday, 'Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been penalized for his team's slow over-rate during Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.'

The statement further explained, 'This penalty was imposed as it marked the second offence for his team this season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations. Consequently, Samson has been fined ₹24 lakhs.'

Additionally, the other players in the playing XI, including the Impact Player, will incur a fine of either ₹6 lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever amount is lower.

At present, Gujarat Titans are leading the standings with four wins and one loss from five matches, while Rajasthan Royals find themselves in seventh place with two wins and three losses.
